The MIT Wrestling team competed at The Esquivel Duals and defeated both Yale University and the University of Rhode Island by the same score of 30-24 on Saturday. Freshman, Keith Skaggs won both of his matches by fall. Grad student, Jacob Adams won 3 matches, 2 by pin and 1 forfeit extending his win streak to 7. Junior George Friedlander was 2 and 0 on the day. Senior captain Frank Soucy and Johnathon Brown won both of their matches by fall. Grad student and first year wrestler Brendan O’Neill lost 2 hard fought matches.

The team travels to the University of New Hampshire on Sunday, February 17th to compete at the Henry Marsh Invitational.

The MIT Wrestling team traveled to Mesquite, NV to compete at the NCWA National Duals on January 25th and 26th. MIT upset the number 10th seed, Richland College by a score of 28-27 to finish in 12th place.

157 pounder, Jacob Adams was 5 and 1 on the weekend with 3 technical falls. Jacob is making constant improvements from week to week and is shaking off the rust from a 4 year hiatus.

133 pounder, Keith Skaggs got 3 wins on the weekend and beat 1 of his opponents he lost to the day before. Senior captain, Frank Soucy had 3 wins on the weekend including a pin and a technical fall. He fought back in his first match of the weekend, down 10-1 before pinning his opponent in the 3rd period. Senior captain, Jonathon Brown also had 3 wins on the weekend including 2 pins.

Overall, Coach Layte and Coach Bosco were pleased with the effort from each guy. They feel the team wrestled well but still has work to do before the conference and national tournament. We need to get back in the practice room to improve on our weaknesses and work on attacking more says Coach Bosco. Coach Layte stated “We need to keep working hard to improve our conditioning and each wrestlers game plan.

MIT hosts Yale University and the University of Rhode Island on Saturday, February 2nd at the Esquivel Duals.
